Other Committee · Meeting of July 15, 2026

Brookline Transportation Board scraps most of a five-year Route 9 bus lane and stalls on a driver advisory panel. The board voted 5-0 to recommend the Select Board eliminate the eastbound priority bus lane on Boylston Street/Route 9 from High Street to the Newton line, citing driver noncompliance and a roadway "too narrow" for both a bus lane and bike lane, chair Brian said. Members separately approved MassDOT-reviewed all-way stop signs at St.

Paul and Dummer streets and at LaGrange Street and Princeton Road, but a proposed stop sign at Carleton and Ivy streets failed to draw enough support after member Nancy warned it would create "a solution without a problem" on an already backed-up street. The board also reviewed a draft capital plan featuring a $3.5 million Hammond Street project low bid, a $7.1 million pavement request and $235,000 for parking meter replacement, and spent more than an hour on a contested proposal for a new committee representing car-dependent residents, which more than a dozen speakers debated before the board postponed a decision to September.
