Brookline Library Books Documentary Screening On Book Bans For Sept. 10

The Brookline Public Library is adding a screening of "The Librarians" and a companion panel on book challenges and bans to its Sept. 10 lineup at the Brookline Village branch. The addition comes the same week Town Hall issued its August newsletter as summer winds down and the library canceled a teen writing workshop.

TOWN HALL Town Hall released its August Town Administrator Newsletter this week, rounding up town updates, events and community resources as summer draws to a close, according to the town's website.

COMMUNITY & ARTS The library is adding a screening of "The Librarians," a documentary on book challenges and bans, to its Sept. 10 slate at the Brookline Village branch's Hunneman Hall. A panel discussion will follow to provide context on what has been happening in Massachusetts regarding book challenges and bans, according to the library. The screening joins two lettering programs already set for that date, an "Ocean Tails" letter-making session and a brush-lettering class taught by calligrapher Debby Reelitz.

Not all summer programming survived the week. The library canceled its Aug. 22 Worlds in Words creative writing workshop for tweens, apologizing for the inconvenience without giving a specific reason.
