School Committee · Meeting of September 30, 2026

Brookline School Committee adopted three new policies in one meeting, aligning the district with state mandates on law enforcement, seclusion and student discipline. The nine-member committee voted 9-0 to adopt a Massachusetts Association of School Committees model policy restricting civil immigration enforcement on school grounds under the state's new Protect Act, signed by Gov. Maura Healey on Aug. 5.

Members also voted 9-0 to adopt updated seclusion and restraint rules effective Aug. 17 and a revised student discipline code correcting references to three state statutes. Policy subcommittee chair Suzanne Federspiel said the work continues a multiyear rewrite begun years earlier by former chair Stephen Erenberg. During public comment, Driscoll parent Nicole McClelland said playground temperatures reached "125 degrees" last June and asked for a districtwide heat safety policy, while FRR parent Mike Lyons renewed criticism of a kindergarten class-size cut, citing $350,000 in new Title I funding obtained since the cut.
