Brookline Students Return To Class September 3
DATELINE — BROOKLINE — Brookline Public Schools students return to class Thursday, September 3, marking the unofficial end of summer across the district. The Public Library of Brookline is filling the final days of break with in-person programs, and Brookline Patch reports that a closely watched Duxbury murder trial has now gone to the jury.
SCHOOLS
The district's calendar lists Thursday, September 3, as the first day of school, with classes opening across Brookline High School and the district's elementary and middle schools, including Baker, Driscoll, Hayes, Lawrence, Lincoln, Pierce, Ruffin Ridley and Runkle. The district's website continues to direct families to registration, transportation and financial-assistance resources ahead of the opening bell.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
The Public Library of Brookline is holding an in-person-only Gentle Chair Yoga session with instructor Keith Beasley on Friday, August 28; virtual Zoom attendance will not be available for this sitting. On Saturday, August 29, the library's Coolidge Corner branch hosts Worlds in Words, a creative-writing workshop for tweens ages 10 to 13 meant to expand young writers' curiosity and craft.
Looking ahead, the library has stacked three programs into Thursday, September 10: an Ocean Tails lettering session, a screening of the documentary "The Librarians" at Brookline Village's Hunneman Hall followed by a panel on Massachusetts's book challenges and bans, and a brush-lettering class taught by calligrapher Debby Reelitz.
