Brookline panel approves new summer pay rates
Brookline's School Committee Finance and Capital Improvement Subcommittee voted 3-0 to send a reworked summer program pay structure to the full School Committee.
Finance Committee · Meeting of February 4, 2026
Brookline's School Committee Finance and Capital Improvement Subcommittee voted 3-0 to send a reworked summer program pay structure to the full School Committee. The new formula sets director and coordinator pay from a base rate plus differentials of $1,500 per 60 staff hired and $1,500 per 180 students, but it would cut Star Academy's director stipend from $18,000 to $11,000, prompting member Jesse to ask whether "that's going to impact our ability to get the people we need to run the program." The panel also reviewed a district facilities request for $310,000 above the town's $3.63 million building-services budget, tied partly to utilities up "10 percent in one year," per subcommittee Chair Mariah. Officials eyed roughly $130,000 in savings from a deferred $54,500 vehicle purchase and an HVAC technician position to narrow the gap, with a fuller plan still pending.
