Select Board · Meeting of September 22, 2026
Brookline's Select Board approved a $4 million-linked housing deal and debated banning election-day meetings. The board voted 4-0, with member Anthony Buono absent, to approve a memorandum of agreement with WinnCompanies capping rent increases for income-qualified tenants at the Village at Brookline and supporting a $4 million rehabilitation of 99 Kent Street. It also ratified a modification to its Coolidge Corner Theatre lease 5-0 and opened a public hearing on renewing RCN's cable license, where Brookline Interactive Group director Jessica Smeiser said quarterly franchise payments fell from $10,676.08 to $9,026.87, over 15 percent, in a year.
No vote was taken on Warrant Article 8, which would ban public meetings on election days; petitioner Janice Khan said it would "affirm Brookline's commitment" to voters, while member Bernard Greene objected to comparisons with "norms being broken at the federal level."
