Select Board · Meeting of August 31, 2026

Brookline's Select Board voted to seek a $150 parking fine cap and heard a stark senior needs report. The board unanimously backed a home rule petition raising the Transportation Board's fine cap to $150, with a $100 base fine, after member Anthony Buono unsuccessfully pushed for an $80 cap indexed to inflation. A UMass Boston Gerontology Institute survey of 2,259 residents found 19 percent don't know anyone nearby they can call for help, and Council on Aging Director Emily Williams said "that's a significant amount of the resident population" facing affordability, transportation and communication gaps as nearly one in four residents will be 60-plus by 2040.

HR Director Ann Braga reported 736 benefited employees, announced her October departure, and fielded questions from member Bernard Greene on why Black and Hispanic new-hire rates trail nearby Boston neighborhoods. The board also reappointed Andrea Brew, Max Wolff, Derek Choi, Joan Mahone and Dana Teague to town boards.
