Select Board Opens Hearings on Fall Warrant, Housing Trust Cap
Board of Selectmen · Meeting of September 16, 2026
Brookline Select Board opens hearings on a 20-article fall town meeting warrant and a fight over housing trust funding. Board member Anthony presented a compromise to Article 18, developed with petitioner Deborah Brown, tying the trust's $5 million funding cap to 2.5 percent of prior-year net revenue, roughly $7.5 million to $8 million today, instead of a fixed 2013 dollar figure eroded by inflation Anthony pegged at 59.19 percent. Trustee Roger told the board the town's expected local share of Walnut High School's second construction phase will run close to $10 million, and pitched a separate non-binding resolution, Article 17, asking the Community Preservation Act Committee, whose annual funding runs about $4 million, to commit a share of its money to the trust.
"I think what the cap forces them to do is to spend money," Anthony said of the current formula. No votes were taken on either article; the board also voted 5-0 to appoint four members to the Brookline Youth Council and authorized a hybrid format for the November 17 special town meeting.
