Brookline Select Board Votes to Commit $4 Million to 99 Kent Street Rehab
Board of Selectmen · Meeting of September 16, 2026
Brookline commits $4 million to rescue expiring-affordability senior housing. The Select Board voted to pledge $4 million from its Affordable Housing Trust toward a 99-year affordability extension at the 117-unit 99 Kent Street complex, part of a $73 million rehabilitation by Wynn Companies. CEO Gilbert Wynn, who grew up in Brookline, called the project "first among equals" among the firm's developments, while Housing Advisory Board Director Roger Blood said the town's contribution shrank from an initial $6.5 million gap to $4 million through restructured payment terms.
The board also acknowledged Wynn's commitment to renovate roughly 12 units a year at the related 193-unit Village at Brookline and cap rent increases for two rent-burdened households, while postponing a vote on the underlying legal agreement, still being finalized between the two sides' attorneys, until a future meeting.
