Golden Temple and Brookline Bakery Both Closing, Ending 125 Combined Years of Service
Two of Brookline's longest-running dining institutions are disappearing from the local landscape this summer, marking the end of eras that span more than six decades each — even as the town prepares to roll out a new warm-weather community food program next week.

The town's calendar shows the Brookline Summer Eats Kickoff Party is set for Tuesday, June 30. No additional details were available from official sources in this cycle, but the event signals the start of the town's warm-weather youth meals effort.
Also on the calendar for June 30: the bi-weekly Household Hazardous Waste drop-off at the Brookline Transfer Station, 815 Newton Street. Accepted items include lightbulbs, batteries, oil-based paint, mercury-containing products, fuels, and garden chemicals. The facility may adjust hours in inclement weather; check the DPW webpage before heading over.

The Brookline Public Library has a busy stretch ahead. On Monday, June 29, the Coolidge Corner branch is hosting Pride Button Making — drop in to create buttons featuring a range of Pride flags and pronoun options. On Tuesday, June 30, author Jennifer Welborn visits to read from her STEM picture book Dr. Rosie Helps the Animals and host a stuffed animal vet clinic for young readers. That same day, the adult Caffe Italiano conversation group meets in person at Coolidge Corner, and children's librarian Leah leads Summer Storytime with songs and movement activities. On Wednesday, July 1, a Pride Storytime and Craft program rounds out the library's Pride Month programming with rainbow-themed books and a craft project.
Reminder: all three library branches — Brookline Village, Coolidge Corner, and Putterham — will be closed Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4 for Independence Day.
