Library Rolls Out Zodiac Puppet Show, Fairy Houses This Week
BROOKLINE — The Public Library of Brookline's summer slate is in full swing this week, with a shadow puppet performance, a fairy house build, and a free Coolidge Corner Theatre screening topping a busy calendar of family programming.

The Coolidge Corner branch welcomes puppeteers from Shadow Joy Lab on Tuesday, July 7, for "The Great Zodiac River Race," a performance built around the legend of the Jade Emperor's contest to select the twelve zodiac animals. The library's children's room follows up Thursday, July 9, with a drop-in fairy house building session in the garden for kids ages 4 to 9, running from 4 to 5 p.m.
Also this week: a "Make a Painted Corgi" craft session with Pop Up Art School on July 9 for kids, tweens, and accompanying adults, and a free screening of "Moonlight" (2016) that evening at Coolidge Corner Theatre, presented in partnership with the library to close out its Pride programming. The library's summer reading Plant Swap follows Sunday, July 12, with soil and compostable pots provided for residents looking to trade excess plants. Meanwhile, Monday's button-making and butterfly programs at Putterham and Coolidge Corner drew families into the library's Shark Week and summer reading kickoff events. A previously scheduled Little Groove Family Concert as part of the library's Summer Eats series on July 7 has been canceled, the library said.
