Brookline Adopts 10-Year Climate Plan, Town Hall Roof Work Starts Monday
BROOKLINE — Brookline officials on Wednesday adopted a comprehensive 2026 Climate Action and Resiliency Plan charting a 10-year path to net-zero emissions by 2050, even as Town Hall began preparations for a major roof construction project starting next week.

The Town of Brookline formally adopted its 2026 Climate Action and Resiliency Plan, described by the town as a comprehensive 10-year strategy charting a path to net-zero emissions by 2050, according to a News Flash release. The plan represents one of the town's most significant policy announcements of the week and sets long-range goals for reducing municipal and community-wide carbon output.
Separately, Town Hall Roof Construction is set to begin, with fencing and supplies arriving Friday, July 10, ahead of construction starting Monday, July 13, per the town's News Flash. Residents needing to visit Town Hall during the project should expect changes to building access, according to the release.
Also of note for taxpayers: Real Estate and Personal Property Tax bills were mailed June 30 and are due Monday, August 3, 2026, the town says.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
The Public Library of Brookline has a full slate of programming this week. On Thursday, July 9, the library hosts a child-adult craft session to paint a corgi with Pop Up Art School, alongside a free screening of "Moonlight" (2016) at Coolidge Corner Theatre presented in partnership with the library to close out Pride festivities. Also Thursday, "Fairy Houses in the Garden" runs from 4 to 5 p.m. outside the library's garden space, and the library's English Club ELL Read + Talk conversation group and a Putterham Library "Community Catch-up" social hour featuring local guest speakers are both scheduled.
On Sunday, July 12, the library hosts a Summer Reading Plant Swap for residents looking to trade excess plants, with soil and compostable pots provided. A "Plant a Seed, Read" produce-stamping art program for children ages four to ten follows Monday, July 13, and a flower-printing fabric craft program is set for Wednesday, July 15.
