School Committee 2026-04-30 Part 2 · Meeting of April 30, 2026

BROOKLINE — The Brookline School Committee voted 7-0 to back two town meeting warrant articles, one limiting immigration enforcement access to school property and another urging state reform of Proposition 2 1/2. Member Suzanne Federspiel said the Select Board passed similar language April 14 with one abstention from Paul Warren. Staffer Bella told the committee FY27 layoff notices, covering a net reduction of 22.1 full-time positions, began going out this week, with an additional 58 cuts possible if the override fails.

Coordinator Matthew Dubois presented survey data showing 12 percent of Brookline High School students reported lifetime marijuana use, calling 2.6 percent vaping on school grounds "a big deal." Resident Chi Chi Wu, of the Brookline Asian American Family Network, said the draft civil rights policy was "puzzled"-worthy for naming some ethnic groups but not others.
