Select Board · Meeting of July 28, 2026

Brookline's Select Board approved a new process inviting residents to get staff feedback on warrant articles before filing them. Town Administrator Chaz Carey and Vice Chair Michael Rubenstein drafted the language, which the board passed 4-0, with Carey stressing "you can get 10 signatures, you can file whatever you want." The board also accepted $82,000 in state mental health grants for Police Department crisis-intervention and co-response programs, and authorized a 20-year PILOT agreement with Victory Programs for 16 William Street at 25 percent of assessed value through fiscal 2046. Member Bernard Greene questioned federal DEI and immigration conditions attached to a $23,040 emergency-management grant before the board approved it 4-0, with Carey saying the town would not "sleepwalk into agreeing" to the terms.

Seven residents urged the board to turn a 26 Pleasant Street parking lot into public open space to offset heat and density from the adjacent Waldo Durgan development; no vote was taken.
