BROOKLINE — Brookline Patch led its Tuesday roundup with a look at what Town Meeting members are saying about housing, parking and street-lighting policy, while the town confirmed a temporary closure of Griggs Park's off-leash dog hours and the Public Library of Brookline rolled out two new family events for August.

TOWN HALL

The Town of Brookline's event calendar confirmed that Green Dog off-leash hours at Griggs Park will be suspended starting Tuesday, Aug. 18, because of scheduled construction work in the park.

SCHOOLS

Brookline Public Schools listed Thursday, Sept. 3, as the first day of the 2026-27 school year on its newly posted district calendar. The following day, PreK-8 students are scheduled for a 1:40 p.m. dismissal to allow for teacher collaboration time.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Public Library of Brookline added two new events to its summer lineup. Brie's Balloons brings a magic show and balloon-twisting session to Hunneman Hall on Saturday, Aug. 15, geared toward children ages three to eight, with a 45-minute show followed by an hour of balloon twisting. On Tuesday, Aug. 25, the library continues its Plant a Seed, Read summer theme with a nature-collaging session for young patrons.
